Acorn Training - Fall 2022

The Tres Ranchos training team will be offering both of the training courses required to be Fully Trained as a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster in the Scouts BSA program.

  • Scoutmaster Position-Specific training is the BSA’s initial level of training for adult leaders of Scouts BSA troops. It is designed primarily for Scoutmasters and assistant Scoutmasters. However, committee members and other adults connected to a Scouts BSA troop are welcome to attend.

  • Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills.
Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scouts BSA Troops in order to be considered “trained”

For all Scouts BSA Adult leaders

Scoutmaster Specific course provides Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters with the basic information and tools they need to lead successful Scouts BSA Troops (although, when done right, your youth will lead the troop and you’ll supervise and mentor).

This course is being offered to all Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Committee Members, Commissioners, 2nd Year Webelos Leaders, and all registered adult Scouters.

For Venture Crew Leaders

The Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills will provide an introduction to the basic skills of camping and the outdoors.  Venture Crew leaders without a background in the outdoors can benefit from learning from experienced Scouters.

Online or In Person?

Scoutmaster Position-Specific training is available online at My.Scouting.org, so you can complete it in 10-minute modules during free time. However, taking the course in person; provides the advantage of being able to ask questions of and get feedback from experienced Scouters who has been in your shoes before.   You will learn more and it is a lot more fun.

The Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills is only available in person.  Lets go camping!
